New 4K Chromecast with Google TV could be launching soon

Google’s Chromecast has come a long way since its inception. Back then, it used to be just a device to help users stream content from their phones to a TV. Now, it’s essentially a smart TV platform with streaming capabilities. If you’re looking for an update to the lineup, 9to5Google reports that a new Chromecast with Google TV could be coming soon.

They claim that Google is gearing up to launch a new 4K model. This new model will be the direct sequel to the 2020 model. It is also rumored to come with a new remote design. If you’re concerned about a price jump from the previous model, you don’t. Apparently Google will retain the same $49.99 price tag, which is good news.

We’re not sure what kind of new features we can expect. The report claims that it will see a hardware upgrade in the chipset department. There is a chance it might use the Amlogic S905X5, which should be a massive improvement over its predecessor, especially in terms of efficiency as it is built on the 6nm process instead of 12nm. It is also rumored to support the AV1 codec.

In terms of a launch date, there is no mention of when. There is a good chance that it could be announced at I/O 2024. The event is scheduled for May where other devices like the Pixel 8a could be announced, so hopefully we’ll have more details then.
